Introduction: Since 2005, Jay Vega has worked to make a name for himself as one of the sought-after producers in the Chicago hip-hop scene. Originally from the Lower East Side of New York, Jay Vega began his journey as a DJ in the early '90s with his brother DJ Chips (RIP). Soon after, he would take his talents beyond the tables and on to the mic. It was then that he also began to learn the ropes of production from his cousin, I-Cue. Jay Vega was a natural talent, and everyone knew it when he released his first song, "Back In The Day," produced by I-Cue. He put his life story in a song, and it proved that not only can he rap, but he was also an emotional and deep lyricist. Like many other artists, Jay Vega used music as an escape from his dangerous surroundings, as well as to keep his emotions grounded. He is so deeply connected to his music that everything he creates can change with his mood. To Jay Vega, sharing the music he creates is like giving a piece of his heart away. Having come a long way from running the streets of New York, today he sits as one of the regular producers for a roster of Chicago's finest artists, including Lungz, Astonish, The Primeridian, Rashid Hadee, Esohel, KING, GoonieJ, BdBusiness, itsQVC, Myles J, SevenSevenThree, KooLes, Jacorey, Michael lsael, Pugs Atomz, Mass, Chevy Kaang, Beatsmiths, Finch Borough$, DJ NandoMagic, Reap, and Outbreak. As part of the JVMT/GoodLife collaboration, Jay Vega works alongside the head engineer of GoodLife Studios, Chicago, Alex “PapiBeatz” Baez, where he handles the production. His experience and team have allowed him to take his music to a whole new level. Combining the gritty New York style with the ever-evolving Chicago music scene is one way he has and will continue to set himself apart.
