Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Commit! Check out the different programs in your area, choose one and totally commit for the time you signed up for. Give the program a chance and give yourself a chance to get used to it and improve. You CAN do it!! Always communicate with your coach, they only want you to succeed, not fall off the way-side.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Make sure your trainer is qualified and not just there to "kill" you with the workout. I have a degree in Athletic Training, AFAA and ABC Coach certified. All of my coaches are nationally certified and give a safe and effective workout.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. They just need to be ready for something totally new and be open to whatever I throw at them. I always keep my clients safe and modify if needed but you can't come in looking for one thing. Try it all and you may be surprised at what you can do and what you actually LIKE to do.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. We are completely dedicated at WCBC. We share real nutrition guidance, mix up each day of workouts to keep the body guessing and progressing. Campers can get in touch with their coach anytime to ask questions or bring up concerns to get the best camp possible!
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. Motivating my campers. I love bringing them a great workout each day and pushing them to do more than they think they can! I love when someone who doesn't think they can do it becomes a boot camp addict:)
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. Do you have to be in shape to take Boot Camp? No, you take boot camp to get in shape or if you are in shape to mix it up.
I'm out of shape, is this too much for me? No, we have all levels and ages in our camps. They are formatted to challenge but let you pace yourself as well.
Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?
A. Its always interesting during our outdoor season. You never know what might pop up in the park but always a good conversation. From entertaining arguments between people walking their dogs to other trainers setting up 2 feet away from us. My campers love to see that as we totally kill their boring workout!
Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?
A. Boot Camp does not have to scare you! So many people might miss a great opportunity to get fit because it has BOOT CAMP in the title. Everyone has a different style but I am there to support and motivate you. We have fun at camp but some days I may be a bit more hard core when I know everyone is ready to push it! You can always take a break and catch your breath, I want everyone to have success.
Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?
A. Fitness went from a hobby to a career. I used to hit the gym in highschool with friends. From then on I was hooked. I started college as a Psych major and changed to Athletic Training since that was a hobby I loved and knew I would love it as a career path. I've never been much of a desk person.
Q. What are your most common types of jobs?
A. Boot Camp. I don't take on many personal training clients. I love the group atmosphere. I might take on small groups to train if someone had a group of friends who wanted private group training but I love to keep it boot camp style or Power Circuit Training.
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. yes, too keep my certification I have to earn 15 CEU every 2 years. This is done by taking online courses or going to different seminars or conferences where we learn about the lateset fitness trends.
Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?
A. There is always some new trend in fitness. It could be a new tool like kettle bells or a new Fusion style workout but bottom line is you have to get up and move. A calorie is a calorie and you need to burn them, gain lean muslce and lose body fat to be healthy no matter how you do it.
Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.
A. We offer a few different costs for camp. Some camps are offered 3, 4 or 5 days per week. We are adding a new "flex" pack to our evening boot camp.
5:30am - 4 days/week = $250; 5 days/week = $299
9:00am - 3 days/ week = $200
6:15pm - 3 days/week = $200 (Flex pack of 9 classes during 4 week camp coming soon. Cost TBD)
Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?
A. Make sure you love it and stick with the type of training you love. If its one-on-one, group, outdoor, indoor, sports specific... Everyone has great clients and challenging clients so you have to love what you do to make it work and come across as genuine. Stay educated, you are dealing with someone's health. You have to be able to change the workout and/or the way you handle someone according to their personality and needs.
Q. Write your own question and answer it.
A. What's the difference between my boot camp and a group class or boot camp at the gym?
I am very invested in my camp and campers. I have been a fitness director in the past and most group instructors are just showing up to teach their hour and collect a paycheck. With my camp you get a fun, motivational group atmosphere as well as personal attention and extra information each week to keep you going forward to your goals. I also offer Women Only camps which my clients love!!
