Introduction: I'm an artist before I'm a photographer. I'm visually driven so my work appears to have a contemporary and journalistic approach. Capturing the special moments with emotion and edge are some of the things that make my work unique. I feel privileged to be able to see another human being make another human being cry out of pure love, it's one of the more magical things I get to witness. A front row seat to some of the most vulnerable moments between two people who are madly in love. I love my job.

I've worked with Joanna previously in her career as a graphic designer in the beauty & fashion industry , so I knew she would have an incredible eye and the discipline and reliability we were looking for. When it came time to choose a wedding photographer, there was no question. Joanna is an incredibly talented and an artistically unique photographer. Our engagement photos were awesome (we froze our butts off but it was absolutely worth it!) and our wedding photos were even better. Many friends and family couldn't even believe how incredible our photos turned out. The outcome made us look and feel like we had a celebrity wedding in Chicago. If you are looking for unique and creative photos that will last a lifetime, Joanna is your gal! Our photos were edited, we had a link to a slideshow and full files within a week, impressive! She is a true professional who is passionate about what she does and really takes the time to get to know you, make you feel comfortable and express your true personalities through her lens.

My husband and I were blessed to have Joanna as our engagement and wedding photographer. She is an exceptional photographer that created beautiful memories for us to cherish for years to come. JoAnna shot our engagement and wedding photos. They are absolutely beautiful. Working with Joanna was so easy and enjoyable. She is laid back and works in a way that you don't even notice she is taking your photo. On top of her ability to be discrete while shooting, she beautifully captures emotion and human connection in her images. I think wedding and engagement photos can feel contrived, but none of JoAnna's work would ever convey that. She is so talented at capturing real candid moments. I remember getting so many comments on our engagement and wedding photos, of course that they were absolutely beautiful, stunning, etc. but also people said things like "These photos feel like you guys! She really captured who you are!" JoAnna has a wonderful eye, the composition, the light, the editing -everything about her photos makes them so very special. I would recommend her to anyone who is searching for a wedding photographer.

I was beyond impressed with the expertise JoAnna brought to the table. She shot my wedding in October and she was able to capture every aspect of my day from start to finish. We had a gloomy, cold day however JoAnna managed to capture the most gorgoues shots and the end results were outstanding. It was amazing how fast she was too, even the wedding party was impressed. She wasn't afraid to keep us moving to get the best possible angles and backgrounds. At one point we thought she was going to jump in the pond to get what she wanted! I wouldn't put it past her. I didn't have to worry about getting that perfect one as I knew she would handle everything. It was one less thing I had to worry about. My images came back to me so quickly it blew me away. I also received a few teezers the day after the wedding. I would highly recommend J. Castaneda Photography and I will definately use her again. Thank you JoAnna for making my day even more special than it already was. Thanks to you I have it all documented and will look back on it knowing it was perfect!

Yes. I speak with other photographers, go to workshops to learn about what others are doing, to challenge myself as well as working in a studio for commercial photography.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I saw so many photographers doing it and I knew I could do better and tell stories through my eyes. I wanted to be heard, to share my point of view. I couldn't wait to get started.
