Introduction: I'm Ryan. I love photography and have had a camera in my hands for more than half my life now. I am a very relaxed and easygoing character with years of professional experience. I come from a photojournalism background but have an extensive portfolio that includes weddings, portraits, nature, stills, product photography, news, sports, modeling, and so on.
I moved here to Chicago April 2013 to attend a graduate program learning acupuncture and traditional East Asian medicine (my other passion), but I am still an active photographer for hire.

Bio:
I graduated from Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication in 2006. During my time there, I was a photographer and photo editor for the university's daily newspaper, The State Press; interned at Arizona's major metropolitan newspaper, The Arizona Republic; and was part of an award-winning team of hand-selected student journalists reporting on border issues between the U.S. and Mexico, dubbed the Borderlands Project.
Upon graduating, I was hired as the chief photographer for a Phoenix based publisher, where I spent five years photographing everything including news and sports, nature, stills, products, and models for the covers and inside content of the publisher's various print products.
On the side, I continued to freelance my talents to smaller newspapers and businesses as well as to private and professional clients.
Today, as a current graduate student, I am available strictly as a freelance photographer, lending my talents to the good people in the Chicago area.

I must enthusiastically endorse Ryan Ruiz as the professional you want to capture a special moment or commercial affair. Mr. Ruiz is a consummate professional with a superb eye that can take precise direction & be trusted to work autonomously or under his own creative intuition.
I witnessed his work on two separate commissions one a wedding ceremony & reception and from that encounter I requested his skill at our (HFTD.org) charitable event. He executed his craft with precision attention to the needs respective of each occasion. Effectively catching the memory, moments, and organized photos of the wedding, while seamlessly adept to capture the commercial nature of the charity engagement.
His premium abilities are offered at a more than reasonable rate in comparison to the breadth of technology, techniques, and skills he brings to his work. I consider him the kind of professional that once you find them they will stay in rolodex for as long as they are taking work cause you never have to question the quality. It's such a mental relief in the work I do to have that kind of assurance.

I needed some professional shots for my website. Ryan showed up early, set up efficiently, and took charge of the situation - in a respectful way. The proofs were emailed to me earlier than I expected, and I loved them. Ryan is a good guy and made the photo shoot fun and easy. I would hire him again.
