Rhodes Fusion Fitness teaches practical self-defense with associated fitness training. The self-defense program is designed both for the beginner and the advanced martial arts practitioner.
The new student will learn the most common scenarios and practice defenses to these situations. Over time, with constant practice, the techniques will be hardwired into the system, giving the practitioner an automatic response to some dangerous situations.
Instinctive fighting tactics, threat assessment, and verbal conflict resolution are also learned. It doesn't matter if you are a seasoned athlete or a stay at home parent, you will definitely make gains in your personal defense skill and your level of fitness.
I have been a martial artist for most of my life, and I want to bring that practical knowledge to you.
Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Anyone should come with an open mind, but also be prepared to ask questions about what self-defense really is about. Understand the time commitment that it takes to become proficient and take full advantage of the trial so that you can make an informed decision.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Always ask about experience . Time spent actively practicing and teaching is important. Ask about the curriculum. What is it? Is it easy to learn? What are the benefits of the training? Do you have contracts? Any instructor should be confident with his or her curriculum but should also be humble. Any attempt to speak poorly of another instructor should be seen as a red flag. Remember training is about your enrichment and your growth should be encouraged.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. I can't speak about what other instructors do but it is important for everyone to fill out a profile. The training is flexible enough for everyone to fulfill their needs. If someone needs fitness, they'll get it. If someone needs to get a little deeper into some of the principles we can do that. If one is looking for more empowerment or confidence to handle their lives in a non combative situation then they will learn that. It is my goal not to fit everyone into the same pattern.
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I like to see people improve. It is always a great day to see a client accomplish something that had previously been challenging. When I see become more confident and they are able to shed the scars of a previous trauma, I am happy and humbled. I like having the ability to give my clients an outlet so that they can manage their regular lives more effectively.
Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?
A. Continuing education is an important part of my practice as a teacher. Usually, I spend between 100-140 hours per year attending continuing education course in fitness, functional movement, and self-defense. This does not include the time spent reading and reviewing videos. If I stop learning as an instructor, then my growth also stagnates.
