Introduction: Every student is different, so I tailor my lesson plans around the student's specific learning style and needs. Ultimately, my goal is for my students to love music and love playing the violin as much as I do.
I encourage students to listen to as much music as they can and if there is ever a specific song or piece they want to I am more than happy to incorporate it into the lesson!
For younger students and beginners, I use Essential Elements or Suzuki books. I believe it is important to learn to read music from a young age, so I incorporate that into lessons for beginners. Scales and etudes are also key to providing a strong foundation for young students. A similar approach is also used for adult beginners.
For intermediate students I utilize the Solos for Young Violinists books as they provide a nice transition into more extensive solo repertoire. Depending on the need of the student, I might also pick specific pieces outside of the books that I think will enhance their learning. Scales and more advanced etudes are also key.
For advanced students, I generally pick suitable pieces from the violin repertoire. I believe the reason we learn music is to be able to play and share it with others, so I like to incorporate duets to play with the student as much as possible. Scales and more difficult etudes are also incorporated.
