My daughter (8) and I both took guitar lessons from Steve. We really thought he did a great job and enjoyed our lessons! As a parent, I found him to be patient, kind, and encouraging of good guitar habits with my daughter (who had no prior musical lessons). As a student myself with 25+ years experience on other instruments, I found Steve to be a great teacher who could adapt his pace, teaching style, and still encourage good guitar habits to an adult student. He has a fabulous knowledge of music (in general), and teaches aspects of the guitar that you cannot just learn from a book. I would happily recommend him to adults and kids alike who are looking for a knowledgeable, patient and kind guitar teacher!

I played an organ years ago ( I am 70 years old) and lost a lot of skills. I now have a digital piano, but I was not satisfied with my progress. So I signed up for lessons with Steve. I took piano lessons from Steve for about 18 months. I moved about an hour away, so it was not practical to continue with him. The lessons from Steve were exactly what I was looking for. He figured out my skill level and set up a plan for me. He stressed the fundamentals while teaching a song at the same time. Being able to play a song, even a simple one, was a great reward. Then we progressed to develop more skills and more interesting songs. Steve is patient, attentive and a good coach. He genuinely loves teaching and finds that “spark” in to build on. I saw this many times as I would listen to him teaching the student before me. Steve is a great teacher and I strongly recommend him.

Steve is an excellent drum teacher! Extremely patient and understanding. He packages the lessons that has a mixture of theory, practice and songs, thereby making it an enjoyable learning experience every class. He paces the lessons as per the students capacity, and his emphasis on daily practice has helped my son get better at fundamentals, which is an essential part of drumming. As a teacher he is doing his part, but much of the responsibility rests on the student as well... practice and patience are key to one's continued success My son (age 10) has been learning drums under Steve since mid 2013, and surely plans to continue for a long long time.

Steve has taught my 12 year old for about 1 year now.Steve has high expectations for his students and has a fun sense of humor that keeps kids motivated. He really focuses on the fundamentals which is key to success. He is very patient, and will work to find music that my son enjoys to play. He has made fantastic progress and really looks forward to his lessons! When conflicts come up with scheduling, Steve can be flexible. I love having a teacher who comes to your house. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will usually speak to the student or guardian over the phone first to get an idea of the goals and aspirations of the player before the first lesson.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have majored in music at College of Dupage in Glen Ellyn IL and also studied music performance at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles CA. I continue to practice and study every day.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started teaching music in 2003 at Hix Brothers Music in Aurora IL
