Estate Flooring has been creating beautiful wood floors since 1979, offering routine maintenance of hardwood flooring, staircases and architectural woodwork with wax, polyurethane and water based finishes.

We create beautiful wood floors starting with the installation of the wood, custom design and colors, sanding, staining and finishing. We are currently using water based finishes which are better for the environment and you; very durable and beautiful.

Estate Flooring also offers repairs and refinishing of existing wood floors. We also work on existing marble, stone and ceramic tile flooring.

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Restoration and preservation of existing wood flooring and architectural woodwork are our most common type of jobs. We also do a lot of cleaning of existing wood flooring as well as stone, marble and ceramic tile flooring.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Find out how long the floor guy has been in business and what his experience is . Feel free to ask questions and definitely find out what products are being used on your floors. Some of these products are cheap and quick but extremely bad for the occupants of the home and the environment.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Installation and restoration of wood flooring is a very physically demanding job. Estate Flooring does not rush any aspect of the job as we treat each job as if it were being completed in our own home. We strongly advise against the use of certain finishes. Some finishes are very poisonous as the out gas for ninety days after application. These finishes are widely used because they are inexpensive and quick. The floor guys do not tell you about the poisonous aspect of the finish for this reason. Be careful what products are being put into your home.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. We will gladly come out to look at your floors and give you all options as to the needs of your hardwood, marble, stone and ceramic flooring.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. Estate Flooring is committed to complete customer satisfaction. We pay a great deal of attention to detail and to what the customer wants. Estate Flooring using the best quality wood, stains and finishes available on the market today. We are very meticulous with every step of the process no matter what the job is.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. We enjoy making history beautiful again. It is truly amazing what refinishing your wood floors can do to beautify your home. Your wood floors are the largest continuous surface in your home. They are used and abused everyday. With routine maintenance your wood floors can last a lifetime.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. The most commonly asked question is how much dust is involved. Since we use vacuum equipped machines and air filters on every sanding job the answer is very little. We have never had a customer complain about dust in over 30 years of business.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. We have a client we have been working with for the past 5 years as they restore their manor home in Lake Forest, Illinois. They had been using one of the largest and most widely flooring companies in Chicago but were not satisfied with the results. They asked us in to do a project, which we did for about 1/4 of the cost and with excellent results. We have been working for them ever since.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. We offer an excellent product at a very reasonable price. We care about each and every job we do and we will keep coming back until the client is completely satisfied if necessary. We have had very few call backs in the last 31 years. We have an excellent rating with the BBB and Angies List.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. We refinished the floors in our own home and some friends asked us to refinish theirs. After that the jobs just snowballed through word of mouth and clients seeing our work in their friend's homes.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. We recently completed a cleaning, wet grinding, polishing and sealing of a marble floor which turned the entire home around. We also refinished the existing wood floors. The homeowners wished they had contacted us about 5 years ago after moving into their home to have had this work completed as it was like night and day.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. We attend clinics and workshops about products and procedures which are given by the manufacturers.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. Wood, marble, stone and ceramic tile flooring is good for the environment. These types of flooring, if properly maintained can last for a hundred or more years. Your floors are an investment in your home and can be there forever. Some flooring can also be removed and reused for a variety of different purposes.

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. Our most recent job was to refinish a wood floor in a home. The floors were sanded, sealed and finished with environmentally safe products. The entire job from start to finish took 3 days.

A. We charge by the square foot for all flooring jobs, by the hour for architectural woodwork, and by the tread for staircases.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. We would suggest that you apprentice with someone with several years of experience. Also learn about all the different types of products available for the job.
