Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Have a specific goal in mind. A lot of companies will gladly take your money without really caring about the business. Make sure the company you choose is genuinely interested in how your business works and wants to use that information to create a website or internet marketing campaign that will specifically address any goals you have. Some goals should be "attract more customers" or "let customers know about new products" or maybe even "get customers engaged with an online membership area". Whatever it is, make sure the company you choose is focused on the message and not flashy graphics and technology buzzwords.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. One secret is that no one can guarantee you a top spot on Google. No one can guarantee that your Google ranking won't drop. You can guarantee to get higher search engine listings but never a top spot. Online marketing involves a lot of trial and error. You can't go up against the big guys without starting somewhere. Clever always tells our clients that we are going to work our client's business up the internet marketing ladder slowly but surely over time. Be wary of companies that advertise fast results. It can take up to 3 months before your online marketing strategy takes full effect. That's not to say that you won't see many minor improvements quickly that add up to great visibility for your company.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Ask about copyright information. Does the company keep copyright over the copy writing and design elements? Ask if they offer the ability and training for you to be able to update the content of your site yourself. Ask about any warranties and how long after the work is complete will they continue to do minor updates. A company that charges a monthly fee for the ability to update a site or one that makes you go through them to add content to your site is one that isn't always a good choice for small businesses. You can always do it yourself easily. If you can use MS Word or write an email then you should be able to edit your own site just as easily with no technical knowledge required.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Make sure you have clear goals for the site. Its okay to let the designer have a lot of control over the design if you aren't sure about it but when it comes to content make sure you have a general idea of what pages you want to include on the site. You should work together with the company to create a plan that fits your needs. Having a rough idea of what information you want to include will help the web design company a lot and being able to explain how your company operates to the web developer will also make things run more smoothly. Also, have an idea of when you want the site to be up online (a timeline or a deadline) and a definite budget in mind. Keep in mind that programming is all about compromises and your timeline, content needs, and budget will all have an impact on the results but no matter what they should always be professional and effective.
Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
A. We provide the same professional quality as others. The difference is in the service. We build our client's sites, run develop and run their marketing campaigns and then give them the option to be able to update, edit, and use everything by themselves with no technical knowledge required.
We build the ability to edit your own website into every site we build We not only make it easy but we train each and every one of our clients in how to use the CMS and give them written instructions as well.
Internet marketing campaigns can be run by the client once we complete a contract as well. We provide training, techniques, and written instructions for our clients to follow so they can continue their success online.
The best part is that they only have to spend a couple hours a week and they aren't tied down to one company. If you do need a professional to run things on a monthly basis we do offer the option of letting us run things for a low monthly fee but it isn't necessary and we make everything editable by you by default.
