Question and answer
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Meet with them first.
Preferably at the location you will be recording at. Get a feel for who they are, how they would be to work with, if the environment would be a good fit for your work, etc.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. You're in control.
It's your project, it's your time and money, demand things get done the way you want them to. Or at least that the final result is how you want it (there may be a better way to achieve this than you're aware of). In short, take ownership of your project and don't let the engineer take over.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. For this type of service, experience is key.
I don't care of you have a $100,000 studio, if you don't know what you're doing, it's still going to sound like it was recorded in a garage. My facility and equipment are somewhat humble but my samples, demos and happy clients speak for themselves.
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Not much.
With most of my competitors, you had better know precisely what you want and the quickest, most efficient way to achieve it before you ever pick up the phone.
Since I work on a flat-rate basis (you pay per project, never by the hour), you're a lot more free to experiment and try new things. It makes for a no-stress creative environment, and the results we've seen on a few "experimental" tracks have been astounding.
