Love love love Woods Home Improvement! We found them through Thumbtack. Tom, Lisa and Grant are so hard-working, honest, mindful of deadlines, creative, and reasonable. Our job included a new bathroom and bedroom in our basement, as well as adding a partition wall to separate our tool room and storage room from the rest of the living areas down there. We had a very tight timeline, but Tom (and Grant, and Lisa even) worked non-stop to get the project done in time. They have such a great work ethic, and we enjoyed having them in our house day after day. There was never a day where they disappeared and we didn't know when they would be back. They were totally reliable. The result is an absolutely beautiful bathroom and peaceful bedroom. The craftsmanship was superior and the design was creative, and we were totally impressed - in today's world it seems hard to get good quality products, but that is exactly what we got from Woods Home Improvement. We absolutely LOVE our new spaces, and would use Woods Home Improvement again in a HEARTBEAT!

We had our entire home remodeled from top to bottom. This included a kitchen renovation, 3 bathrooms remodeled, hardwood flooring, carpet, tile floors. They even created a vaulted ceiling and oak beams in our attic. Everything is beautiful and people compliment the job every time they come to our home. Excellent work!

We found Woods Home Improvement to be very professional, they were prompt in getting the project started as well as finished. Wonderful craftsmanship and nice people to work with. Tom went the extra mile to meet the needs of our project with small detailed built ins. He is a true craftsman who takes pride in his work. We have already recommended them to others and will I use them again in the future.

This family owned company was a pleasure to work with from conception to finish. Great customer service and reasonably priced. We had them design and install a handcrafted cedar pergola on an existing deck. The craftsmanship is beautiful and Tom even hand designed beautiful rafter tails to fit our motif. Even passed along material discount so the job came in less then expected! We couldn't be happier and will undoubtedly use them again!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, we do. We are lead certified and licensed home inspectors (although we are not currently inspecting homes). I (Tom) have completed certification in Construction Management which included skills and knowledge in the following areas: project management, superintendent skills, cost estimating, construction scheduling, safety management, soils science, plan examination and code enforcement.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
From Tom: I've always enjoyed remodeling projects, but I decided to really learn the carpentry and contracting when I moved to the northwoods of Wisconsin and learned from old-world craftsmen who took tremendous pride in their work and skills.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
We just completed a basement renovation in Oak Park, IL, that turned out extremely well and the customers (and their visiting parents) loved the finished project. It was like their very own spa retreat.
