Introduction: Megan Opel Interiors was born out of my lifelong passion for color, pattern, and beautiful antiques. As an interior decorator, I help people in the Chicago area create beautiful, functional, and family-friendly spaces on budgets of all kinds. I also offer e-design services for long-distance clients and no project is too small. Combining my degree in art history from Cornell University with the design skills honed through renovating my own 100-year-old home and my studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I help clients design spaces in a wide range of styles from elegant to traditional, rustic, cottage chic, casual, industrial, ethnic, modern, mid-century, and eclectic. I am very sensitive to scale and how the architectural elements of a space can dictate a design. My background in painting as well as my travels abroad enabled me to develop a keen eye for color, and I am positively enthralled with the psychology of how color affects mood. Above all, as a mom of a busy toddler and a frequent cook and entertainer, I am privy to what makes a home safe, durable, and welcoming to children and guests. I believe homes should be approachable, have a natural flow, and serve as a place to entertain family and friends, play, and relax. My work has been featured on Apartment Therapy and Style Me Pretty and I write about design on my lifestyle blog Peaches and Cake. My services include the following: - space planning - project management and budgeting - design directions 2-hour in-home consultations - electronic design and mood boards - private Pinterest boards - access to trade-only products and programs - color palette and paint selection - fabric, furniture, rug, wallpaper, and accessories selection - custom window treatment, pillow, and upholstery design - tile, hardware, plumbing fixture, countertop, flooring, stain, and lighting selection - kitchen appliance selection - moulding selection and design - custom furniture and door concept sketches and design - art sourcing - vintage furniture and rug sourcing - reupholstery and refinishing of existing vintage furniture - product ordering - onsite installation - contractor recommendations - e-design for clients outside of Chicago through e-mail communication and design boards

Meg recently helped me design a shared boys room on a tight budget, and it is simply adorable! I have been following her blog, Peaches and Cake, for a long time and love her ideas. She helped me every step of the way, from creating an inspiration board to sending detailed links to all items she recommended purchasing on places ranging from Craigslist to Land of Nod. We designed the room completely via long distance - with lots of photo taking. She walked me through each purchase and how it would fit into the overall design of my sons' room. She has great taste and anytime I had a problem or question, she went above and beyond to find solutions to my design issues. She was very timely in all of her communications with me and I would definitely work with her again.

My experience with Meg was really great! She really took her time and listened to what I really like and offered really great advice on designing my space. I already had a lot of furniture, and I brought her in to clean up the space. She really helped out a ton! I'd recommend her to anyone.

Meg is fantastic! She was more thorough than I had anticipated anyone might be. She came to do a walk through and get an idea of what my boyfriend and I wanted. By the end of our 2nd meeting, we had successfully chosen out a paint palette for my entire 2 bedroom condo (bathroom, kitchen, living, dining, 2 bedrooms and a storage room) and I had decorating ideas (from rugs to curtains to throw pillows to wall decor) for each space, as well. Although we only met in person for about 4 hours, she spent enough time researching and arranging for our unit outside of that that she was able to create detailed lists of every item she suggested for every room with price points and links included as to where I could find all of this merchandise. She responded to every email question I had promptly and thoroughly. I couldn't have hoped for a better guide through a process that I don't have the time or wherewithal to take on. She made everything so simple and at such a reasonable price. Thanks, Meg!

It was such a pleasure to work with Meg on the redesign of our kitchen. She was very prompt in responding to emails and she was always willing to meet according to my schedule. Even before our first meeting, Meg asked what we had in mind for our kitchen. She came equipped with a great number of samples, pictures, and ideas. We were able to jump right in and immediately find the products we wanted to use. She has a great eye for color. I also appreciate her ability to remain conscious of our budget and her suggestions on way to save money while maintaining the design. Each visit was followed with an incredibly thorough email detailing everything that we had talked about, as well as any additional ideas that she had. Her wonderful personality really made her a job to work with. We can't wait to use her again for our next project.
