Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Corporate and Association communication videos compressed for DVD, website delivery or iPads (for trade show playback) is what I have been often editing in recent years, mostly un-supervised at my facility but also at client's in-house facilities or at locations they need me to be at worldwide. I still edit a few commercials every year, and an infomercial, documentary or television program every year or two, but corporate and association communications, training, orientation, demonstration, new product introduction and the like are what I edit the most.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Shop around. If you are looking for a low price, you will find that you need to sacrifice quality and on-time delivery. If you are looking for quality, you will find the price to be higher as the time to take longer to create. If you looking for something fast, you will find the quality will not be as good and it certainly isn't going to be cheap!

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My experience. I know when to use effects and when to go full-screen, I know how to color correct and what broadcast quality means via a waveform monitor and vectorscope, and I know what client questions to ask in order to create an effective video. Be it a corporate, commercial, infomercial, documentary, program, or any other video type, I have the experience to be able to tell the story, engage the viewer and effectively communicate your message.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. That it's never the same! Every corporate, commercial, infomercial, documentary and program gets it's own, individual "look". Even when I edited a nationally syndicated weekly television show for over two years, each looked similar but different despite following a specific format. Editing requires a good mix of creative and technical ability, and keeps me on my feet at all times!

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. How much? My answer is that although I have an hourly rate, it depends on what the customer is looking for and what their budget calls for. Customers come back to me because I have the proven ability to come in within their budget and on time offering creative input during the whole process - every time.
