About Thomas Barr From my very first class at UIC under the direction of Larry Klein, of Larry Klein & Associates and Saul Bass & Associates fame, it was drilled into me that the primary role and purpose of communications design is to serve the strategic needs of Marketing. As Director of Design at Foote, Cone & Belding, and while serving an impressive list of Fortune 500 marketers, I was preoccupied with interfacing research, product development, sales, media, public relations and corporate communications into effective integrated marketing plans. In 1991, I was given the opportunity to gain international experience through a four-year contract position in Seoul, South Korea as both Director of Marketing and Creative Director, leading a staff of 16. Upon my return in 1995, I took on the role of Director of Marketing & Communications for a leading product safety company, managing both topline sales and marketing communications. Today, I operate my own marketing communications and design firm under the name of Barr Communications, bringing with me all the dedication and expertise I have gained over the past four decades serving companies in dozens of industries, both nationally and internationally.
