We used Nelson's for our wedding reception this past September. I cannot express how amazing of a job they did. From the beginning, they were easy to work with, and were eager to help make my reception what I had always wanted it to be. All of my guests were impressed with the layout, and the helpfulness of the staff Nelson's sent. After the reception, I kept getting compliments on how delicious the food was! They also did seat covers, which transformed my reception hall! The experience I had with them was outstanding, and have already given their information to other people I know that are looking for caterers!!

We were very happy with Nelson's Catering. We used them for our son's wedding and they were very easy to work with and very accommodating and available to answer every question we had...even when we asked the same question multiple times!! Since the wedding, we have heard numerous compliments on the food...everyone, including us, thought it was wonderful! The staff was very polite and helpful throughout our event and even helped us with things that weren't their responsibility but we greatly appreciated everything they did to make it easier on us. We will definitely recommend Nelson's to anyone who is planning an event and needs catering services!

A. When it comes to selecting a caterer for your upcoming event, you'll want to make sure you choose a reputable company. Always ask for references, view their website & online presence, consider years in business, attend any tastings offered, & consider how prompt they are in communicating with you. There are many excellent "chefs" out there, & a culinary flair should not be overlooked; however, making sure the caterer you hire has a strong business foundation to support their talents will pave the way for a smooth planning process & most importantly - an event both you & your guests will truly enjoy!
A. Great question - but there are far too many to name here! Give us a call & we'll be happy to "let you in" on a few :)
A. There are many things to consider. Most importantly - make sure you are comfortable with the companies' reputation, the way they represent themselves as a whole, & the representatives you speak with. The only question you'll regret, will be the one you were too scared to ask. Any "true" professional will be happy to help guide you through even the most unusual of questions & will encourage open-communication at all times to reach the overall goal of exceeding the expectations of both you & your guests!
A. Any of the following information is always helpful, however, we understand that sometimes certain details are TBD & will always be happy to help you from whatever stage in your planning you may be at:
- Primary Contacts Full Name
- Any Secondary Contacts that may partake in planning
- Company, Group, or Event Name
- Date of Event
- Aprx # of people you're planning for
- Event location (or city & state if venue is tbd)
- Price Range you have in mind
- Type of catering you're interested in... if known (Buffet, Appetizers, Stations, Plated & Served, Casual, Formal, etc.)
A. 1. Our Grills - In 1967, Nelson Gongwer invented his patented Port-A-Pit cooking unit which led Nelson's to become a household name throughout Northern Indiana. Our 20ft stainless steel grills grill meat over an open flame, systematically dipping it into a special signature sauce - ensuring a quality product is produced every time.
---
2. Commitment to staying ahead of the competition - We are always looking for ways to improve; We attend trade shows regularly (like the Cater Source Show in Vegas), hold weekly product & recipe comparisons, complete followup calls for each event we cater, & we are continuously looking for new & innovative ideas.
----
3. We Communicate! - We have a full office staff available Monday - Friday from 8 am - 4:30 pm, so it is very unlikely you will be unable to reach us. We are also available by email as well, & have a very prompt response time. We're more than just a chef w/ fancy recipes & a love for food - we're a business, focused on our food & service, w/ a love for people!
----
4. References & Experience - Whether you're planning a wedding, Corporate Picnic, Holiday Party, Delivery in your office, Formal or Casual Fundraising Dinner - our list of references from all across Illinois & even into parts of Iowa would be tough to dispute. We've been in business for over 17 years now - steadily growing & here to stay!
-----
5. Family Owned - We're family based & personable; we understand the importance of your event, because we've planned our own weddings, meetings, & so forth. We put all of our heart into providing you w/ the best possible food & service available - we sincerely care about exceeding your expectations & building a strong business relationship w/ all of our clients.
A. Far too many to list here... if you work in an "event" industry, or hospitality in general, interesting things always happen. Be-friend a caterer, dj, florist, waitress... & you'll soon start to understand. The most important thing is for your client & their guests to enjoy the event; there may be "obstacles" the catering staff will tackle, but a good caterer keeps them "behind the scenes". We work miracles at times, & it's always an interesting experience for the catering team... If only you knew (but then again, we wouldn't be doing our jobs if you did ;) The best part of the night, is receiving "rave reviews" from your client & their guests - the best part of your job, is when you receive personal calls & letters following an event - getting to hear how pleased your clients were!
