Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. If you are in need of an estate planning attorney, I strongly recommend that you find out if there is a charge for the initial consultation. Grossman Law (Mr. Thomas E. Grossman III) does not charge for the initial consultation. Additionally, ask the estate planning attorney if he/she charges a "flat rate" or an "hourly rate." Lastly, do your best to get a feel for how much time your attorney will spend advising, counseling, and educating you (the client). If you contact an estate planning attorney and state, "I would like to have a Will completed." Then that attorney states, "Sure. Come to my office on Tuesday at 2:00PM. Oh, and be sure to bring your address book with you too." Then you show up and sit down with your "estate planning" attorney and he/she merely goes over the requisite information to complete your Will and after about an hour or so you are done and the attorney says, "I'll give you a call soon to let you know when it is all done." RUN!! RUN FOR THE HILLS!! This above-scenario is NOT advising, counseling and educating your client. I have completed a great number of comprehensive estate plans for families that already had estate plans done some time in the past and when they meet with me and listen to me, they are often times beyond irritated at their prior attorney for not "advising" them about certain issues pertaining to estate planning, tax consequences/implications, etc.
