Why voice lessons and coaching?

If you are reading this, you already realize that there is much more to any type of vocal performance than just opening the mouth and letting sound come out! Just like anything else we do in life, if we dedicate our time and talent to working hard, our continued improvement and success will be our great reward!

Lessons for voice are generally taken weekly. Some students take one-hour lessons while others take only 30 minutes and still others split an hour by taking two 30-minute sessions per week. Of course, when auditions for solos, special shows, competitions, musicals, and choir auditions come up, students often increase the frequency of their lessons to make that final effort to polish the song and presentation to increase their opportunities for success!

One wouldn't begin piano lessons and in only eight to ten weeks be playing a concerto in Carnegie Hall. One doesn't begin tennis lessons, and a couple months later, be able to defeat Andre Agassi! The same is true for singing. To gain confidence and improve is a steady process. The sooner one begins private lessons and performance coaching, and the longer they remain, the greater the possibility for improvement and success!

Clients can sign up for the semester and can pay either all at once, in 2 payments, or in monthly installments. The choice is yours to accommodate what works best for your family.

What are included?

1. Physical Warm Up
In order for a high-performance machine or instrument to run its best, it needs to be thoroughly primed and warmed up. In singing, your body is your instrument! I will introduce you to a variety of different techniques to warm up the voice to allow for optimum performance excellence.

2. Breathing Technique
Correctly supported breathing is crucial for continual improvement as well as top-notch performance.

3. Vocal Technique
We will explore specific vocalizations to stretch the vocal chords’ range, teach placement of sound, diction, tone, pitch, volume, control, and other important techniques that the student will incorporate into each song he or she sings.

4. Learning a Range of Repertoire
We will explore Musical theatre/broadway, pop, jazz, classical or whatever other genres the client's heart desires! There are techniques that allow every style to be sung beautifully while also maintaining the vocal health of the singer!

5. Vocal Styles
This is the "way" or "flair" in which one sings a song to make notes and rhythms into music! I will guide you as you take the song off the page, make it your own, and take it to the stage

6. Sight Reading and Ear Training
Theory areas that are tested in auditions for top-notch ensembles can be quite challenging for most students. We will work on them to ensure that the student improves in these music areas!

7. Performance Technique
Students will learn how to perform their songs, beginning with character analysis of the person singing the song, including the motivation behind it and person, place or thing to which the song is sung. We will also delve into the meaning of the song. Personalizing this information and creating a connection between the song and the person singing it transform it from a song into a performance.

8. Facial and Physical Expression
This is sometimes referred to as "selling the song." The student will learn how to use facial expressions and body language to express the song, creating a connection between audience and artist. This is always important and is especially useful for an audition or performing in a show!

9. Personal Style Coaching
Before auditions or interviews, students often wonder, "What should I wear?" "What about my makeup?" "How should I wear my hair?" All of these are very important questions that can make a good audition or interview into a great one!

With years of expertise in preparing clients for elementary, middle, high school and college, adult, professional and community theater, national and international theme park, church praise team and choir, national television, Broadway and print ad auditions and interviews, I can share with you techniques and skills through which you can improve your chances of success while feeling confident and relaxed!

10. Confidence Building
All of the teaching and coaching techniques are rooted in positive reinforcement. This means I will be positively impacting each client’s belief in themselves and their ever-improving abilities by building on the day-to-day successes, celebrating good performances even if they happen to not result in getting the part or winning the trophy! Clients will notice that their improved confidence in performing carries through in many areas of their life such as the following:

* public speaking
* working in groups
* making a great first and second impression
* trying new things
* speaking confidently and respectfully with authority figures, and much, much more!
