Timika did a great job braiding my daughter's hair. She is friendly, efficient, and does quality work. I'm getting my hair done later this week.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Ask as many questions as u can, to get the best knowledge of who u are going to hire. Honestly, there really is no stupid question, because every little thing matters when u are spending your money. Time, patience, and money are ur biggest commodities when it comes to having ur hair done, so u have to make sure u use them wisely.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My work stands out because of who I am and what I put into every single hairstyle. There are people who braid hair just because its extra money. Then some do it just because they're good at it. And still, there are others who braid because they like to do it. I braid hair because I am good at it, because its my stress reliever, because it makes me happy, and I just genuinely like to braid hair. I was always taught to do what u love, and get paid for it. So to me, the money is just a bonus.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. That this is nothing personal. It's a business. I love to do hair, and will make any accomodations that I can. But people also need to understand that I have to accomodate myself as well as them. People also need to understand that time is money, so being inconsiderably late isn't acceptable. Another thing I wish people understood is that once the appointment is made, that time frame belongs to them. But once they decide to be late, then they're on my time.

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Not traditional education, not at the moment. That is something I look forward to doing in the near future. But I do look up new hairstyles online every few months, because someone calls me just about that often, asking me about something that I have never heard of, or doing a style in a way I've never done before. I like that because it keeps me up to date, and it pushes me to continuously learn something new on a regular basis.
