Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Do you homework, check out what certifications does everyone hold. Industry standards rely on CompTIA, Microsoft and vendor specifics (IE Dell, HP, Cisco and other reputable manufacturers). Don't rely on some store associate training that supposedly can be taught in one week or just a few days. Big chain stores for the most part are out to sell you parts and software, that sometimes includes spyware and Trojan viruses.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. I wish that repair people would be honest with me.
At AA Computer Service & Repair we are honest in what we can & can't do for you. We will try to give you upfront prices and estimates based on our knowledge of the problem.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. What certifications do you hold?
Are your certifications up to date?
Have you seen this issue before?
Is it reasonable to fix this or should I just replace it?
Give me a reasonable time frame in which this will be completed. (if taken in to AA Computer Service & Repair we strive for 24 hour turn around but if parts are on order then add 24 hours to date of expected delivery).
What technology are you familiar with/do you work on (MAC, PC, Linux, etc.)?
Do you have any specials right now/what kind of deals do you offer?
Do you offer discounts to students/Veterans/senior citizens/(specific organization)/businesses?
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. Details of what exactly is going wrong.
Have you seen any error messages? What were they?
If this is worst case scenario what information on this system can't you live without?
What did you do to cause this issue to happen?
How long has this been occurring?
What steps have YOU taken to correct this problem (sometimes the fix is worse then the original issue)?
How critical is your computer to you (so we can determine if its an emergency issue or a regular visit)?
What kind of computer is it and where & when did you buy it?
Is the problem physical (water, dropped, cracked screen) or logical (viruses, data corruption, etc.)?
Do you have the software that is on your computer to reinstall if you should have to do a full system restore or Hard Drive replacement?
