FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
At the time I decided to become a home inspector, I was performing commercial and residential home inspections. I had just purchased my first home and had my first experience with a home inspection. I thought everything went well until I moved in and started living in the home. There were numerous items not covered by my home inspector that ended up costing me lots of money. That was the first moment in which I knew I could provide a better service.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The best advice I can offer a prospective customer is ask questions. Do your homework on your home inspector. Ask about his license, insurance, experience. Ask to see a sample inspection report, check with the better business bureau. Ask lots of questions.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
When I speak to most customers, they are under the impression that all home inspectors provide the same service and price is the only difference. This couldn't be be further from the truth. To be a home inspector, the bar is set pretty low. Each home inspector brings something different to the table and all inspectors are most definately NOT created equal. A lot of what we do comes down to effort, focus and desire. You can have all the skill and knowledge in the world but if you don't apply it effectively and consistently....you are just another guy with a flashlight looking around.
