Make sure any contractor you hire is fully insured with worker compensation and general liability insurance to insure the risk that you carry is minimal. Also, trust your gut when it comes to choosing a trustworthy contractor. If the deal seams to good to be true, it just might be. I have had too many clients hire a contractor who just took their money and left half way through their project. Lastly, to insure your contractor is qualified, check their references, both the ones they provide and the ones that you can find by searching the online reputation.
