Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?
Caterers and restaurants price their product by buying food, multiplying the cost of the food by 4 or 5 times, then reselling it to you. Friend that Cooks doesn't feel this is a fair way to charge for food. We purchase your food with your money so you pay only what the food costs at the grocery store. Then we charge a reasonable flat hourly rate for shopping, cooking, portioning and cleaning up your kitchen. Since we work in your home, we have very little overhead which keeps the end cost of your meals much lower than eating out in a restaurant or ordering the same food from a caterer.
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy the friendships I make with our customers. I named the business "Friend that Cooks" for just this reason. We develop a bond with our customers that goes beyond just "doing business". We know our customers and their families on a personal level, and they know us the same way.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
Q: Isn't a personal chef just for rich people?
A: Not at all. We have created a unique business model that greatly reduces our overhead, and makes our service much more affordable than a traditional personal chef. See our rate page at www.friendthatcooks.com/rates.html for more information.
Q: Who uses a home chef service?
A: Home chef services are most often utilized by individuals or families for one of the following reasons:
• Too busy to cook
• No desire to cook
• Don't know how to cook
• Disability doesn't allow you to cook
• Just need an extra hand
• Need to eat healthier
• Need to save money from eating out too much
• Need someone to shop
Our clients (who we call "Friends") are everyday people who for some reason or another don't get to eat healthy, delicious homemade meals. For some Friends, our service is a money saver. For others, it's a time saver. Whatever reason you have for not being able to prepare delicious, wholesome meals for yourself, Friend that Cooks Home Chef Service is available in your area to do it for you.
Q: Can you cook for someone with dietary restrictions?
A: Because of the unique structure of our business, we can create food to meet any dietary restriction, such as diabetes/celiac disease/low sodium, at NO EXTRA COST to our customers. We even have customers occasionally request food directly out of their favorite diet cookbook such as Adkins or the Zone.

We began service for the Wilson/Smith family of 5. They grow a lot of their own vegetables and fruits, along with chickens. It will be fun to have a plethora of fresh vegetables to cook with this summer.

Started service today for new customers Nancy and Janet. I made 5 portions each of Italian pepper steak and steamed brown rice; tarragon crusted turkey medallions with Georgia peach sauce, steamed green beans and sundried tomato rotini; Caribbean jerk pork tenderloin with steamed broccoli, and citrusy black beans with fresh corn off the cob and cilantro; and smoked salmon pinwheels with alfalfa sprouts, cream cheese, diced red onion, capers and fresh lemon juice over spring mix greens with fresh made raspberry vinaigrette. It was enough food to feed them lunch and dinner for the week and it took 5.33 hours including shopping and clean up. Once I get used to their kitchen, it will take less than 5 hours. We're pleased to have Nancy and Janet as new friends and customers!
