Maris is the best! She helped us so much. When I started to work with her my dog was biting me and others and she had killed 3 raccoons in our yard. Maris took my dog to re-socialize her with her pack of dogs for a couple of weeks and did some intensive training with me. She taught me how to walk the dogs (I have 2) so they are by my side, not in front. She had me use a simple lead high on the neck so I could give a little tug to direct/correct. She also taught me the "Nothing in Life is Free" method. With this my dogs have to follow a simple command before they get a privilege and I go first through doors; symbolically in the lead. I think this made a huge difference. Maris also told me to make sure Maddie is socialized at least twice a week with people or other dogs which I do regularly. Both my dogs were from rescue organizations. Maddie was 3 months old when I got her so that window to socialize was pretty well closed. She seemed to just get worse over the years and really bad after my older, calm dog died. My friends all say Maddie is like a different dog since Maris entered the picture. I think she is, too. She is much calmer, comes when I call and follows commands very well. I am able to walk her without problems and take her to the off leash dog park. She hasn’t bitten me since Maris worked with us and she is good around visitors. I could not recommend Maris more highly. I think you will be very pleased if you give her a try.

Maris is an incredibly knowledgable and experienced trainer and breeder, whose work can only be characterized by her deep understanding of a canines own true nature and therefore lack of certain human qualities that we all as dog owners tend to believe our animals posses. She is forthright in her ability to discern between a behavioral problem that begets modification, and the unfortunate genetic problems typical dog owners find more difficult to understand. This ability has allowed her to bring hope back in the homes of families who have found themselves feeling distressed and helpless, particularly when the costs of typical behavioral modification and training may be a deal breaker. We adopted a shelter dog who was severely abused, and suffered from extreme anxiety and fear, specifically of the male gender. It was recommended by our vet that we consider euthanasia, as the safety of my children and anyone who came into the home was of primary importance. As a dog lover who has only raised wonderful family dogs from young puppies, I felt helpless when I realized that this poor damaged young pup we had made a part of our family, was indeed troubled and that his escalating behavior was putting serious strain on not only our family, but the other two great dogs we already raised. Giving up was never an option, the pup had clearly chose my young son at adoption, so I immediately began searching for help with behavior modification both online and through the vet. After speaking with several trainers and one dog psychologist over the phone, it became clear that our family would never be able to afford the help our dog so desperately needed. I finally searched specifically for "dog behavior modification Kansas" online, and found Maris's website. She had a wealth of information and educational materials that not only gave me hope, but proved to me that as a trainer, she truly knew what she was doing. When we spoke in the phone, I explained to her what a serious situation we were in with Sam, and that the vet suggested euthanasia. She immediately calmed my fears and offered to come over and evaluate Sam. Maris never promised that he would be a good candidate, nor that only a session or two would would magically fix the problem, but she did promise to give us her honest opinion at a price my family could afford. After our evaluation, it was clear she could work with Sam, and at the same time train us as a family in how to make things work by being his leaders. There was no time limit on our visits, she didn't charge by the hour, and was in no hurry to rush through a session in order to get to another clients home. After three months of weekly visits, Sam had gone from a fearful broken dog, to a dog that clearly wanted to work to please us. I could not, and would not recommend any other trainer but Maris to anyone. Not only is Maris wonderful at what she does, but she offers her clients a type of affordable personalized service that no other trainer can. There is nothing Maris could ever possibly do better for families, she is simply amazing.

My 170lb Mastiff/Dane mix is beyond anxious (backyard breeder) and was becoming difficult to handle. I found out about Maris on a Great Dane Facebook group. Maris came to my house once a week for a couple months and figured out how to train ME. :-) She was consistently on time and if she was going to be late she let me know. I'm a different dog owner now, I understand balance for my dog, how to recognize when he's getting anxious, training for different personalities (I've got 3 dogs) and general issue's with dogs. Rocco now obeys commands and I can have guests in the house without worrying about him attacking. I would recommend Maris to anyone looking for a dog trainer, she's the best I've ever worked with.

Maris has been a huge help with my personal dogs and the dogs that I've helped re-home. One such dog had a very hard time learning as she was not very well socialized when young. We came up with a game plan for her. Now Ms. Wiggles is doing just wonderful. After all the work that was put into her, Wiggles now has a permanent home with me.

Maris has helped us tremendously with our new Lab puppy, Lily. I have learned so much from Maris. Things I would never have thought of. We have been through 6 weeks of training, plus Maris came to our house before training started and spent time with us and Lily. I am a NEW puppy owner, always had kitty's. So Lily was a new challenge !!! Couldn't have done this without Maris for sure !!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Evaluations are for dogs needing behavior modification. Prices vary depending on location, but generally the most expensive part of the process is the evaluation. I need to go over a thorough history of the dog to get to the bottom of the behaviors. Basic obedience prices also vary on location. Group classes are taught for 6 weeks for $100. Private lesson prices can vary on your location. We work in the comfort of your home.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Provide as much details as you possibly can about what your goals are with your dog. If you have bizarre behaviors that you need behavior modification for, try to get videos of the behaviors in case we cannot recreate them during an evaluation.
