Introduction: I have been teaching guitar to students of all ages and levels for more than a decade. My private teaching studio is presently located in Lake Charles, Louisiana; but I am also available for Skype lessons over the internet. I have undergraduate, masters, and doctorate degrees in classical guitar performance. I enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge to students of all ages and backgrounds. There is nothing better than seeing a student improve and fall in love with his or her instrument. The guitar is a very personal instrument and can be a wonderful, creative outlet and a source of joy for students of all ages. Although my main area of expertise is classical guitar, which stresses the full technical development of both the left and right hands while also developing the ability to read and interpret classical music, I am equally comfortable teaching rock, pop, flamenco, and blues guitar. For students who are not interested in classical music, but are interested in playing fingerstyle guitar, then you have come to the right place! Learning a classical technique will enable you to play any folk, country, blues, rock, and pop songs you like with tremendous ease. Bypass years of dysfunctional and limiting technique by mastering classical, fingerstyle technique. To do this, you do not need to read music or even study the classical music repertoire! You can learn the technical fingerstyle mastery by using a guitar tablature and playing your favorite types of music. Flamenco guitar playing originated in Spain and is one of the most exciting, rhythmic, and virtuosic, fingerstlye guitar playing in the world. In order to learn this style, you will need a nylon-stringed classical guitar. Please visit my website at kacherskiguitar.com

I have been taking classical guitar lessons this year from Jay Kacherski. Jay has been an outstanding teacher, and I am even more pleased with what he has taught me than I originally expected. Not only is he a fabulous guitar player, but when it comes to my lessons, he is very patient with me, and he has a natural ability to customize and steer the lessons toward my specific desires, requests and overall ability as a guitar player. He has a very friendly and curteous way about him, while still maintaining professionalism. I know that Jay will do great wherever he goes, not just because of his ability as a musician and teacher, but also because of his personality and character which are 'top shelf' in my opinion.

Simply put, Jay Kacherski is amazing at what he does. He is extremely knowledgeable, passionate, patient, and most of all prepared. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or an expert guitar player, Jay is capable of taking you to the next level! Cannot recommend him highly enough.

Dr J is the best!! He was my son's guitar teacher and I started taken lesson after being inspired by my son's progress with this fantastic teacher. After not playing music for >30 years, I was challenged, but was building confidence and competence each week. Dr J empowers student to reach the heights of their desires. He makes the work digestible, approachable, understandable - where you gain competence on technique and move quickly through repertoire. Dr J is also an outstanding guitarist in his own right. I have seen him perform many times, and was enthralled, inspired and delighted by his exciting playing.

Jay is an outstanding person who is very passionate about teaching. I haven't picked up a guitar for quite a while, and I've developed many bad habits over the years. Jay has patiently worked with me -- his positive attitude and enthusiasm have really helped move me along.

I'm a senior citizen, almost 74 years old, that loves the guitar and wants to keep learning and improving as long as I possibly can do so. Under Jay Kacherski's tutelage, I've begun learning to read music late in life and wish to become more proficient in doing so. I'm convinced playing the guitar, and practicing daily, is a wonderful therapy for my aging process. I can only say "great things" about Jay, both as an amazing teacher and a guitar professional. He never makes me feel inadequate with my amateurish level of playing. He is always kind and encouraging; his humbleness with his students is just amazing to me, since he outshines any guitarist I have ever heard. I look forward to my weekly guitar lessons with Jay and encourage anyone wanting to learn guitar to seek out the best -- And Jay Kacherski is THE BEST!

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

TEACH!! I love teaching and inspiring my students to excel on their instrument. I have over 10 years of experience teaching students of all ages and abilities.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I generally advise students to start on either a nylon string guitar or an electric guitar since they are much easier to play than your "run of the mill" steel string acoustic guitar. However, there is no need to buy a new guitar if that is not what you have.
