Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Someone with an NCCAOM certification will guarantee at least basic competence. Someone who has been in practice for at least five years will have the necessary experience to provide better service. Someone who has at least a Master of Science degree will be able to most effectively communicate with your M.D. if necessary, and suggest appropriate western medical tests for screening purposes. Similarly, teachers of taiji and/or qigong who have years of experience and a varied background will likely provide the best education in those topics, with the ability to tailor those practices to your needs if necessary.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. First, a person seeking these services should come as a patient or student, not as a customer. This is not a matter of making a one-time purchase, but a matter of working over time to improve your life in the ways you deem important or necessary. Accordingly, it's important to know this is an ongoing process, and while some improvements may be seen in a relatively short while, for best results the person should be prepared to invest in themselves over time, and not expect a "quick fix".

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Ask about the points listed in the first question, the person's education, credentials, years of experience, familiarity with your health concern, and results that can be reasonably expected.
