Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Being a professional exhibiting fine artist for over 30 years, I bring a vast array of experience, technical expertise, craftsmanship imagination and professionalism into my work. It stands out more as a finished canvas painting, "fine art" than what is typically seen in a lot of murals, (of which often the standard of finish quality can be low). I love transforming an "ordinary environment" into an extraordinary environment". Also knowing that the client will get a lifetime of enjoyment and hopefully I will even be an instrument in uplifting there mood and consciousness on a daily basis.

UNDERCURRENT DESIGNS INC. DECORATIVE PAINTED FINISHES I own a decorative paint company, Undercurrent Designs Inc., and have been in business for over 20 years. I have employed Bob Masla for years to create a numerous range of work in these decorative jobs. His work is a cut above the rest as he delivers a one of a kind mural, on interior walls, floors or ceilings and furniture or hand painted finishes that can incorporate a level of detail that results in a beautiful finished look that is above and beyond what most of my clients expect. He makes wonderful samples so there are no surprises and works well with the client directly. His work is very meticulous and his attention to detail is indicative of his style. Please feel free to call or email me for any additional information as well. Cliff Mendelson Undercurrent Designs Inc. 914-715-1915

In 2008 I converted an old house (1795) into an inn. Being a former movie scenic, I painted the walls of the dining room a gorgeous red/gold using several layers of self-tinted clear. I say that only to say that I have experience and a strong opinion in the world of décor and paint. Bob saw my background and suggested a mural. Having seen a lot of bad murals in life and not being familiar with Bob's work I politely declined. I liked my walls and had put a lot of work into them! He worked to convince me, showed me examples of his work and finally suggested he might do it in the Hudson River School style. I remained skeptical but he showed me some of his work that he had done like that and I had to admit he was good. So we agreed to have him do it and chose scenes from this small mountain town we both live in for him to work from, and he did the work. And it was gorgeous! I get compliments on it all the time - usually from guests who believe it has been there for a century or two. He even included a trompe l'oeil set of skeleton keys on the wall by the fireplace that finishes the room perfectly! Most recently, when finishing a book on the history of the area, the authors asked if they might use Bob's mural as the book's jacket art. They did and it is perfect! (By the way, I tried to give Bob five stars on value, work quality, professionalism, timeliness, communication and budget, but the little stars won't light up. "Overall Experience" worked, but none of the others did. I do give him 5 stars on everything!)

Bob was very accommodating to work with on our dining room ceiling project. He was on time and most of all NEAT and efficient. Our clouds are alive and even my skeptical husband loves it. Although Bob was the higher cost of 3 estimates, it was well worth it since we can't stop admiring our dining room. We will be contacting him in the near future with another project and would recommend him highly.

Bob did a fantastic job painting my ceiling for my recording studio. His expertise and experience painting realistic cloudscapes is extremely impressive. He's also very professional and kind. Hope to work with him again in the future.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Custom designed murals, specializing but not limited to landscape. I will discuss the goals and objectives, preferences and desires of the client, work with reference photos as well as replicate different styles of painting, (i.e. Hudson River School, Oriental Brush painting, etc. to come up with a unique image and design as well as mood for a specific space.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

You should realize there are a lot of decorative painters that do murals, but few fine artists, gallery exhibiting, canvas painters, like myself that paint murals. You may pay a little more for a fine artist, but you are paying for years of experience, training and expertise. Remember, you have to live with the work on your walls, hire a professional fine artist for fine art and a decorative painter for decorative and faux finishes. You get what you pay for.
