About Math for The Rest of Us

Do you need to pass a math course or a standardized exam such as MCAS, GED Mathematics, Math MTEL, SAT, or GRE Quantitative Section? I tutor all mathematics subjects at levels from middle school to college.

I can also work with parents who are homeschooling their children and need help with mathematics. I specialize in teaching adults and adolescents who suffer from math anxiety, or have difficulty in math.

I am a PhD mathematician who teaches mathematics at the Cambridge College School of Education. I am trained in stress-reduction techniques and in customizing instruction for different types of learners.

You can get an introduction to my methods at a low-cost class in "Overcoming Math Anxiety" offered at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education.

Working with Peter has been very helpful. I am a sophomore in high school, and am in an intense honors math class. Peter has helped me significantly with algebra, pre calculus, and geometry. I strongly recommend him to anyone who struggles with math from the middle school to the high school level.

Mr. Ash has been very clear in his explanations of troublesome Calculus concepts. My daughter has had many questions on a variety of topics and he has answered them completely in a way that she could understand. He has been an enormous help to her in the start of the school year which has allowed her to stay ahead in her classwork.

Question and answer

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. My teaching methods are grounded in both a deep knowledge of mathematics (Ph.D., University of Illinois) and in a knowledge of mental processes informed by over 40 years of meditation practice.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love helping people who think they can't do mathematics, or hate the subject, to overcome their barriers and succeed at something that has been holding them back in life.
