Survey findings and summary
Thumbtack.com, in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, has released the new results from the second annual Thumbtack.com Small Business Survey. The 2013 study draws upon data from over 7,000 small business owners nationwide and shows that Boston's ranks improved from last year's in most categories, though the city still struggled with the business-friendliness of its regulatory systems, which earned a 'C' grade.
Some of the key findings for Boston include:
- Boston earned a 'C+' grade overall, up from a 'D' in 2012. Metro Boston also ranked as the best region in the state for small businesses.
- Despite earning a 'C-' grade overall, Massachusetts was given a 'B' for its small business training and networking programs. Massachusetts also ranked among the easiest states for obtaining and keeping health insurance.
