I hired Bob to install a new 9 steps wood deck stairs and put up a steer door for the basement last winter before Christmas. He gave me a competitive quote for his labor so I hired him. It took a little longer than he originally proposed but he did not charge me more. He kept his words. He did a great job for the stairs. He also did not charge me any overhead for the materials he purchased for the job. Instead he used his contractor discount during the purchase so I only need to pay him the discounted price. He sent me a detailed bill for everything. I really like the way he handled things. That is why I am hiring him again for another job. He is also honest about what he can do and what he cant do. I definitely recommend Bob.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My customer references will tell you that I DO NOT charge a markup on materials. If I source materials for you, I present those receipts to the customer and that is all they pay. Also, I receive a 10% veterans discount from both Home Depot and Lowes and pass that savings on to the customer. In addition, my labor fee is agreed to before we begin and that is all the customer pays.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Absolutely. There are seminars and skilled trade classes for all types of craft disciplines. Also, doing your own research online is invaluable.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
After many years of working for large corporations I wanted to see what it would be like to work for myself and offer the type of service that I know has been lacking in the home improvement industry. Working with my hands and using my creative talents and skills is very rewarding.
