Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Always ask questions, always look at portfolios and always make sure you are happy with the art work before you have it tattooed on your body.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. It isn't as much a secret but a fact that some people are not aware of. In Massachusetts, body piercing and tattooing is regulated and licensed by the Board of Health of the town or city the studio is located in. Massachusetts is one of the strictest states in the country when it comes to regulating our industry. You can not receive a practitioner license without first completing CPR, 1st Aid and Blood Borne Training. Also, most BOH's require College Level Anatomy I and II, and/or a Skin Care Course. You must also, depending on the city or town, complete an apprenticeship lasting 1 to 2 years. It is ILLEGAL in Massachusetts to tattoo or body pierce outside of a licensed studio, including house parties.
