I provide primarily Japanese interiors and furnishings. I design and build Japanese architecture and spaces, both inside and out, and construct Japanese traditional cabinetry. I am a joiner in the traditional sense, and a designer at the same time. I lived in Japan for five years, studying the architectural tradition of that nation first-hand. I know my stuff inside and out, and all work is of the highest quality, totally authentic, and without compromise in materials or execution.
People appreciate my grasp of the Japanese aesthetic while seeing that I am not bound by it. Clients find me an excellent communicator and a person who follows through on their commitments. What counts is the quality standard of the work and working pleasantly and collaboratively with the client to achieve the best outcome.
I can work with your garden designer or provide one when it comes to outside architectural work. Inside, I also design and build Chinese Ming-inspired furniture pieces of ultra-high quality, and have a strong familiarity with 19th century French traditional carpentry work, including staircase building. Consultation services also supplied. CAD drawing services another plus.
A. Come with an open mind and a willingness to engage collaboratively in a creative process. Anticipate that I draw from a deep well of experience and knowledge as a maker and may be able to provide you with design ideas and directions you had not anticipated. Thus a certain flexibility in approach is often valuable.
A. That how something is made is more important sometimes than simply how it appears. Quality means designed and built to last, for I employ natural materials exclusively and the only real way to use such materials sustainably is that they pieces be designed and made in such a way so that the natural materials last as long as mother nature took to produce them.
A. Do you employ authentic Japanese joinery and proportioning in your work?
Does your work make use of solid wood, or veneers?
Have you spent time in Japan and as a result are you personally acquainted with Japanese culture and have solid foundation in understanding Japanese design?
Do you have collaborators in other areas relating to this work, such as garden designers, blacksmiths, stone masons, etc.?
