Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Consumers have to make sure that the service provider has the experience to perform the job correctly and at a reasonable cost. They should also make sure the company is fully insured and has referrals for work previously performed. The company should give you accurate times frames of when the job would start, how long the job would take to perform and that at the end of the job they would make sure that the job site is left clean and debris free. Consumers should also ask what the terms and policies are of that company before they sign any paper work.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Many homeowners don't realize that there is more to a wood species than just coloring and grain patterns. Hardness of the wood species also comes into play. The hardness of a wood species is based off of the Janka Hardness Chart, which tests the hardness of every wood species, domestic and exotic. The higher the ranking on the Janka Scale, the harder that particular wood species is. Exotic woods tend to be harder than domestic wood species and this hardness plays an important role in the durability and longevity of the hardwood floor in a residential setting.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Consumers should be asking how long the company has been in business and if that company has experience in the work that you want them to perform. The consumer should also request referrals from anyone in their area so that they can get an impartial opinion as to the work that that contractor performed. It is also extremely important that the make sure the company is insured by seeing a certificate of insurance not just believing it because the company says they are. This company liability insurance covers you for any damage done to your property or to your contents.

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. Consumers should fully understand the scope of what they want performed as changes later during the construction can get expensive or require re work of what was just performed. Consumers should be thinking years down the line with regards to making sure that what they want to do now will suit their needs later on. Consumers that forget this can spend a great deal of money now only to spend a lot more tearing it out a few years from now because they didn't think of what their future needs were going to be.
