FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We price out different services at different levels. An apprentice painter may be $19/hr where a foreman will be $40/hr, a paperhanger is $45/hr, a decorative finisher is $50/hr. Its important to get a free estimate for the total cost of a defined project because just looking at hourly rates will not give you a clear idea of cost, even from contractor to contractor. Our costs are based on our own abilities an history.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I read trade magazines and talk to the paint reps I deal with. Also I browse through websites of paint related manufacturers to see if there are any new innovative products out there.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
After I graduated from art school I fell back on an associate degree in architecture and worked for a year in that field. I had a friend who was wallpapering a hotel and needed help so I decided to do that to be more independent. We worked together for a little while then he left and I took over working for a few of his customers and kept getting referrals and started my own business.
