Introduction: I am a touring professional based in Porter Square, specializing in Cape Breton, Scottish, and jazz styles on the piano. I have experience performing and recording with many top musicians and have been on the teaching faculty at music programs across the country, such as Alasdair Fraser's Sierra Fiddle Camp in California.
I am offering private lessons in any of the aforementioned styles, as well as jazz music theory for the jazz or traditional folk musician. Subject matter for jazz piano would include (but not be limited to) improvisation, chord voicings, repertoire, and style. For accompaniment of traditional music, the main topics focused on would be tune styles/rhythms, bass lines, harmonic structure of tunes, and accompanying by ear.
Regardless of the interests of the individual student lessons, we'll be sure to cover the basic technique on the piano, if necessary. Students should expect to be somewhat flexible around my touring schedule.
