FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I don't have a standardize fee . I have to see every project first, and if I can see the end product expected by owner, and have determined in my mind a way to get there, then I can price it accordingly. With years of experience, I should be able to see it :) I will give a low/high estimate. I feel this is a fair way to go about things. Many, many times there are hidden issues that only immerge as I tear something apart. And I have to say, I really hate going above my high number. In fact I will take a drop in pay just to avoid the embarrassment of being off. It's a matter of pride!
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First of all, I have to meet with or talk to the customer before any work will proceed. I have to make sure we are on the same page :)
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As far as carpentry goes, 40+ years hands on experience. From foundations to cupolas, and everything in between. Most of 2002-2011 I worked for very high builders of custom homes, where I gained immense knowledge and situations that tested me constantly. That education and level of work was the top of a carpenter's list to work on. Every situation was new due to architect's wanting to always be different :) Plus I do continuing education to maintain my supervisor's license up to date.
