Introduction: All ages and levels of experience are welcome!
I am a singer, songwriter, and I have a Bachelor of Music from Syracuse University, with a concentration in voice and composition.
I teach private lessons out of my home studio in Sudbury, located 35 minutes west of Boston, 30 minutes east of Worcester. It is within easy driving distance of Wayland, Weston, Lincoln, Concord, Acton, Maynard, Stow, Hudson, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Marlborough, Westborough and Southborough. Lessons are also available via Skype.
I am an advanced-level singing instructor from the Institute for Vocal Advancement, completing numerous hours of continuing education, observation and testing annually to achieve and maintain this qualification. I am also a Level III instructor in Somatic Voicework The LoVetri Method. These two methods are complementary and are based on functional voice training. Additionally, I am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and regularly attend various vocal continuing education workshops and seminars around the world.
My goal is to train voices to sing in a free and natural manner, smoothly, from the bottom of the range to the top with no breaks or sudden changes in quality. Training in this way gives the singer access to all dynamics, with tonal clarity and flexibility. Improve your range, endurance, stamina, breath control, resonance, vocal strength and vocal quality across all styles of music without fatigue or damage to the voice. This can be accomplished by learning to find a balance between airflow and intrinsic muscular resistance, all within a resting laryngeal posture.
My students include singers of musical theater, pop, country, R&B, jazz, rock, classical and original material -- from absolute beginners to working and touring professionals.
In 2017, two of my students were National YOUNGARTS Foundation scholarship winners in the Voice-Singer/Songwriter category and were selected out of a pool of thousands of applicants from across the country. In addition, one was recognized as a semi-finalist for the prestigious Presidential Scholar of the Arts.
My students have appeared on Broadway, and in lead and supporting roles in musical theater productions at the local, regional and national touring level. I have students signed with major record labels, publishing companies and production deals, and students have appeared in major motion pictures, on national television and in commercials. Students have been accepted to top performing arts schools such as Berklee College of Music, NYU/Tisch School of the Arts, American Musical and Dramatic Academy (NYC), College-Conservatory of Music - University of Cincinnati, Point Park University, Ithaca College and Belmont University in Nashville.
In 2018, one of my students was nominated for Country Music Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards and won the Grand Finale Prize of the Young Performers Series in Boston, MA.
Since I specialize in functional vocal technique, rather than style coaching alone, singers of all styles of music benefit from this type of instruction. Lessons are tailored to your individual voice, with an assessment and personalized lesson goal.
Most of all, I try to keep it fun! We work hard and share a love of music. <3
"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires."
