Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. My advice would be make sure your contract has insurance and is qualified to do your job. Even if your just looking for someone to cut your lawn they need insurance. What if a rock flies up and breaks a window or hits your car? Who is going to pay for that? You don't want to hire a "landscaper" to install a patio if they have never done so before. Ask what materials they will be using and how much. Don't be fooled, if it sounds to good to be true...it usually is. Find a contractor who you feel comfortable with.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Not all landscape companies are the same. Just because you have a pickup truck and a lawn mower it does not qualify you as a landscape contractor. You should always get multiple estimates on your project. Ask your contractor to be specific in the estimate. How much material are they using, will they guarantee their work? If a price seems to good to be true it usually is.
Make sure you ask lots of questions and you feel like you understand exactly what will be done. Don't be afraid to ask for exactly what you want. Check on the contractors local reputation, ask for references and check them out.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. If you are in the market to have some landscaping work done at your property there are some very important things you should ask your contractor.
1) How much experience does your contractor have with your project?
2) Can your contractor offer referances? Make sure you call and verify.
3) Does your contractor have insurance? How long have they been in business?
4) Determine the size of your project. Are you completely redesigning your landscape, or do you just need a simple spruce up?
5)Do you know what type of materials and plants you want to use? Ask your contractor if he/she can recommend other products to reduce costs.
