Joshua Garvey

I am a seasoned piano instructor, with ten years teaching experience, offering piano lessons to children and adults. During high school and college, I studied piano and pedagogy with Helen Smith Tarchalski, a graduate of the Peabody Institute and student of both Leon Fleisher and Fernando Laires, through whom I share a direct student/teacher line to Beethoven and Chopin, respectively. I hold advanced degrees in voice performance, music history, chamber music, and historical keyboards from the Longy School of Music of Bard College and New England Conservatory, where I studied with harpsichordist/fortepianist Vivian Montgomery and countertenor Ian Howell. I believe in catering each lesson to individual student needs, while providing each of my pupils with a strong technical and musical foundation. I specialize in teaching young beginners, but take students of all ages.
