Introduction: Probably what I enjoy the most is having the opportunity to view my world through a fresh set of eyes with each photo I capture. Through every new session with a client, every snapshot with my kid, every unplanned photograph, each portrait bears a new "color", a new idea--either overlooked or unexplored--like a buried treasure that has been, all along, right in your own backyard, but only just discovered.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I find that I'm most commonly commissioned for corporate and entertainment professionals looking to update or enhance their current portfolios. It's a lovely opportunity for me to learn more about other industries and their inner-workings, as well as to explain what others may not realize about my own. I love working with my clients, although I would also enjoy having more opportunities to work with families. I think families are one of the most interesting and beautiful dynamics in the universe. I absolutely love children. Their boundless optimism. Their energy. I also have a strong affection for animals, and a special warmth for couples in love. So it would definitely be a treat to kind of "switch audiences," a bit.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The most consequential tip to remember when choosing a photographer is to trust your instincts - they never lie. Comfort is essential; comfort in cost, comfort in quality. If there is something that strikes you about a professional (in terms of style, personality, technique), don't ignore it! Just like any other situation where you would listen to your heart, it's wise to use the same intuition when it comes to making the investment in a photographer that you can trust. It is important that you and/or your family feel comfortable with the person behind the lens; essentially, what you feel is exactly that will show in your photos. If there's no good connection, there are no good portraits.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

If I could explain one thing about my profession, it would be that photography cannot be divorced from art; taking a photograph is about much more than standing in front of a recording device and having an image printed to place on a wall, or a card. It's more personal than that, and that isn't something that can be achieved cattle-style at a mall, or in a hurried and uneasy environment. It's an expression that can only be captured when seen, and seen only at the right unguarded moment, when the walls are briefly lowered and when--in her infinite wisdom--the camera knows to blink.
