About Design Studio LLC

Are you afraid of making a costly mistake? You can't visualize what the end project may look like? Are you dead stopped by your angst and frustration?

You are not alone. Almost all of my clients have the same problems.

I scale your room(s), place existing and recommend new furniture, move furniture around with you on the spot and create 3-D renderings at no additional charge. On a photo of your window, we can digitally "draw" draperies, add your selected fabric, change it on the spot and add furniture. So, you can see it before you purchase.

Design Studio also offers the following:

* Residential and Commercial Design Services - big or small

* Color Consultation - Are you tired of "beige" paint? Let's get some color in your home that works.

* Turnkey Services - Do you have a second property that you just want outfitted and ready to go? We will purchase and set up your new home. Just bring your clothes.

* Architect and Builder Liaison - Building or remolding is so overwhelming - the choices that have to be made on schedule so you don't incur delay fees. I can be your liaison to ensure you are thinking of everything when it is built. Plus, I have unlimited options for doors, moldings, granite, stone, paint choices, etc. Mistakes at this stage are either costly or permanent!

* Program Manage Contractors Along with Design Services - Are you tired of trying to find "reliable" contractors? I work with the best, and yes, it even took me awhile to find ones that showed up, cleaned up, did a great job and were reasonably priced.

* Staging - The statistics prove that staging pays for itself and then some. All of the homes I have staged sold within 2-3 weeks. Most had been on the market for months.

* Transition Services - With a scaled drawing of your new place, you will never take too much of what you can't use. With the remaining items, we can help you downscale and de-clutter, do an estate sale with proceeds going to you and donate the rest to charity with a tax write-off certificate. We can also broom clean your home, so that you can get to closing. Don't want to handle the move or set up your new place? We can order new pieces to fit your new living arrangements, paint the walls, hang the draperies even make your bed. All you have to do is unpack your personal items.

Do it once without all of the mistakes and second thoughts, but most of all, have fun!

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Make sure you ask if they have a degree or certification in Interior Design. ASID is a good verification site since I needed to send them my transcripts. There are many "wanna be" - it could be a costly mistake.

There is a big difference between creative and business skills. You need both in this industry. There is a tremendous amount of program management involved to deliver the product. So it is not only the best design but the best design delivered.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Ask a lot of questions and make sure they understand what you are trying to accomplish and what is your style. Your home is your own and it should reflect your personality and style. It should be a comfortable "cave."

Ask for a lot of status on your job. Too many times there is not enough expediting and things go wrong. If things go wrong and sometimes they do, make sure it is rectified as quickly as possible.

Again there are a lot of "decorettes", as I call them, out there with time on their hands and not enough education or experience. Be careful when you make your selection. You should be able to tell a real pro. They show up on time, listen, take notes, repeat back your intentions and style, insist on communication - especially with the word "no", provide on going status and make the process fun.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. As about their credentials, make sure you see their portfolio, make sure they listen to you and can repeat back what you want to do. Make sure you click with the professional - you will be with them for awhile.

The design process is a journey where you might not end up where you started. That should be expected. You may want something today but after awhile of seeing what is out there, you may drastically change your mind. Your service professional should gently guide you on your journey and help you make sense of it all.
