Last week, I decided fairly last minute that I wanted to have my stomach covered with henna for a maternity shoot. Upon doing so, I began looking for henna artist online and came upon Bhavna's website. Within hours of reaching out to her, she responded and was able to set an appointment for two days later. After underestimating my commute and activities that day, she was extremely flexible and understanding regarding the delay in my arrival. MOST importantly, she welcomed me/my partner/our photographer into her home and made us feel extremely welcomed - more like family friends than paying customers. She was personable and engaging, respectful and encouraging about my expectations, and she even had traditional furniture in her home/beautiful scenery in her backyard that made for great photographs. What was most endearing, though it may seem trivial, was that she made a point to put her hands on my stomach and send positive vibes to the baby before starting on the henna. Not only would I recommend her, but I'm sure I'll be returning. The experience was better than what I anticipated, and a warm memory I'm grateful to add to my collection of events while pregnant.

I have no words to properly convey what an amazing job Bhavna did for my wedding mehendi. Not only is she an amazingly talented artist (which should be evident from any photos of her work), she is very knowledgeable about the art of henna, the different styles and patterns, and was able to take into consideration what kinds of things I liked, and the shape of my hands and feet, and come up with a beautiful design that made my chubby fingers look long and beautiful! She also tries to make her designs very unique to each of her clients. I'm a malayalee who married a telugu guy, and she wrote his name in telugu on one hand and my name in malayalam on the other (SO CREATIVE!) More importantly than all of this though, Bhavna is a wonderful person who truly connects with her clients. While working on my mehendi, I felt so comfortable opening up to her about even the most personal topics. Her suggestion to incorporate my late mother's name into my mehendi moved me to tears. Between doing my intricate mehendi and mehendi for about 30-40 women in my family who came in the evening, She spent over 12 hours working non-stop! She left my house at about 1:30am, but not before wrapping my arms and feet in toilet paper, and tucking me in bed since I couldn't do that myself, and all the other women in the family had mehendi on! Seriously, ladies, you will never find another mehendi artist like Bhavna. She deserves every accolade for her talent and for her amazing heart.

Bhavna was my henna artist for my wedding. And truly, she is amazing at what she does!! I was left speechless after having henna applied by Bhavna. I was so happy to see the artistic beauty she had done for me with my henna. I was impressed by the time she took and how professional she was. She was on time and worked hard every minute she was with me. She kept me comfortable and valued my opinion. She provided wonderful suggestions that can only be provided with lots of experience. Her artistic skills are incomparable. My wedding guests were in awe and simply amazed with the beauty of Bhavna's henna work. Everyone commented positively and loved the intricate designs, patterns and special drawings in my henna. I could not have asked for anything more in terms of Bhavna's henna. It was more than perfect in all ways.

Bhavna was amazing. She did my mehndi for my wedding on 3/21 and I couldn't have been happier with the results. While it may seem like quite a time and cost commitment it is totally worth it for the following reasons: 1. You are forced to sit still and remain calm for a few hours (7 in my case a few days before your wedding). I was incredibly nervous about that idea in the days leading up to it because I knew I still had so much to do, but I'm so glad I did. Bhavna provided great company while working hard on me and it was nice to just sit and not run around like I had been for the weeks and months prior. Also, it really made it feel like I was about to get married, it got me in the right mindset. 2. I had so much fun showing off her work at my wedding and getting people to look for my husbands name. 3. After all that build up of a wedding, it's weird when it's all over. At least if you have your bridal henna done it still feels like a gradual transition into normal life since it takes some time to fully fade. Not to mention, people will notice and will congratulate you on your wedding! Added bonus: If you spend some time in the sun while the henna is still dark you end up with tan lines. It's been nearly a month since my wedding and I can still see the design from my tan which I think is pretty fun! Those are the reasons you should get it done, but the reason you should go with Bhavna is because of the amount of effort and skill she brings to the table. From the consultation I was impressed with how much detail and thought goes into it beforehand and how much she does to make it personal. The design fit my style/personality so well and that's only because she pulled details out of me. I did not come into the appointment with any ideas of what I wanted, she was able to come up with that with her pointed questions and guidance. In summary, if you plan on getting bridal mehndi done (or really any type of mehndi done), go with Bhavna, you won't regret it.

How did you get started doing this type of work?
My friends convinced me to try it since I am very creative and art comes naturally to me. And my husband supported me and asked me, to dive in hook,line and sinker since I was good at it.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Most commonly I get hired to do bridal henna, sangeets, bridal showers, baby showers, birthday parties and bat/bar mitzvahs. For brides I customize their designs at no extra cost. At the parties I do strip style henna designs (all freehand) that I come up with on the spot without a book to refer to and also put some glitter on top for free to make the designs pop. For brides I do complimentary consultation and custom designs.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Please check the designs done by the artist because if the henna does not look good, the client will be stuck with a bad design on her skin for weeks. Also check if the henna is made with all natural ingredients and that the artist stays away from black henna or henna laced with PPD.
