Introduction: My name is Anne and I've been a voice teacher since 1976. I received my Bachelor's Degree from UMBC in Performing Arts with a concentration in Singing and Acting Voice. In 2001, I began seeking training for the non-classical singer, which is known as Contemporary Commercial Music or CCM. In 2002, I became a Certified Master Teacher in Estill Voice Craft. This approach to singing is based on Voice Science and research and is applicable to all styles of singing. Still wishing to feed my hunger for pedagogy approaches, I studied Somatic Voicework (tm) The LoVetri Method, and became certified in 2007. I continue to study the various approaches to singing for the Musical Theater as well as other contemporary genres of music.

I have studied vocal technique with Anne for many, many years. Anne is enthusiastic and supportive, particularly when the student disappoints themselves! One of Anne's most notable strengths is her ability to effectively articulate the physical action necessary to produce the desired sound. I valued this skill deeply as I had difficulty "feeling" the physical placement of the sound/note I wished to create. Anne tailors her approach to the individual needs of her student which is a critical ingredient to assisting them in accomplishing their goals. She is clearly invested in her students' success!

My year of study with Anne helped prepare me for vocal studies on the collegiate level and beyond. There are some exercises and pedagogical applications I still use today: concentration on retraction and contact of my vocal folds, breath exercises, rib cage expansion. I would recommend Anne to any student who is looking to explore initial vocal training as well as vocalists who are looking to expand their flexibility and awareness.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The prospective student books a trial lesson with me in order to see if we are a good fit and to learn more about what and how I teach.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Performing Arts from UMBC, and am certified in Estill Voice Craft and Somatic Voicework™ the LoVetri System. I have memberships in the National Association of Teachers of Singing, The Voice Foundation, and the Voice and Speech Teachers Association.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I discovered that I had a knack for mentally internalizing what I heard in a singer and help them discover how to improve their singing or fix a problem. I received much encouragement from my college voice professor.
