FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes, Maryland Licensed Massage Therapists are required to continue our training in order to renew our license. Last year I completed a program in pregnancy massage at the Potomac Massage Training Institute in Washington D.C. which was taught by Kate Jordan Seminars. Kate Jordan is based in California and is one of our country's leaders in "pregnancy massage" education and training.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was introduced to massage therapy in my early 20s when suffering from back and neck pain while working in an office. Like many, I was also "Mom" to an active toddler. Massage therapy helped me manage the chronic pain that goes along with repetitive movements such as typing, answering phone calls, lifting, bending, cleaning, etc. I became more aware of how I should move in order to prevent spasms and strains. I learned to pay attention to my body and ultimately was able to reduce the intensity and the occurrence of pain.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I provide massage therapy in a clean, uplifting environment using a variety of products appropriate to each client's needs. I will also travel with my massage table or massage chair to homes and offices to provide massage therapy to individuals or small groups. Employers contract me to provide chair massage for holiday gatherings, for "employee appreciation days", and for health fairs. Individuals contract me for home parties to celebrate birthdays, Mother's Day, and anniversaries. Gift certificates for massage therapy are the most appreciated gifts among my clients.
