Question and answer

Q. Describe three recent jobs you've completed.

A. The last 3 makeup jobs I completed included fantasy makeup for a "My Little Pony" convention, make artistry for an Opera Singer at the Baltimore Museum of Art and Beauty Events for MAC/Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.

Upcoming events include weddings and photo shoots for hairstyling magazines.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. I strongly recommend the client set up a trial session if they are hiring a makeup artist for a wedding. This will allow the client to meet the artist, see the level of professionalism the artist exhibits and have a hands on makeup application. The state you reside in may or may not require makeup artists to be licensed, so making sure the artist knows proper sanitation is a must.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. The most common question is what type of makeup do you use? As an artist, I am not loyal to one brand. I use a combination of department, specialty and drug store cosmetics. If an artist only uses one brand, that may be a disservice to their client. If someone makes a better product for your clients needs and you don't use it to stick with one brand, that is not providing the best service.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. The artists who perform makeup take the art and the profession very seriously. We work hard to deliver a quality product. The most professional do their best to be on time, professional and provide flawless results every time.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. For any aspiring artist, I ask that they determine if this is the one thing that they can't live without. There will be days when being an artist will be stressful and demanding. It is easy to walk away from something that is not a passion. For me makeup artistry comes from the heart. Ultimately, it comes down to your ability to give this your everything; if you don't love it, then I suggest your don't do it. The clients will know the difference.
