" I would highly recommend using Maryland Design Group. They came into our house and blended two styles, contemporary and traditional, into a cohesive space we absolutely love yet kept what we each loved about our own style. They are very talented, have a diverse range of skills and maintain a high level of professionalism. Our house is beautiful and we are very proud to show it off as our new 'home.'"

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. All types. We do homes which are for sale, homes people just want to update as well as properties which have been taken back through foreclosure and need a complete overhaul.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Check their credentials.
Ask to see their portfolio if you don't find the information you want on their website. And, do an interview, in person in better, but at least over the phone. You need to have a connection and a level of comfort and trust with someone you are letting into your property and your life.
Also, make sure they understand what you want and will be respectful of your wishes. After all, you are the customer. It really is all about you!

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. That you don't have to be selling your home to use a Stager and Designer. That is doesn't have to cost a fortune. You really can create a whole new look spending little or no money!

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. The only important information is that they know they want to utilize a service and are committed to doing so. The rest is easy to figure out!

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. We have a proven track record of Customer Satisfaction. The homes we have renovated have all sold, the majority within 30 days and many with multiple offers!

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love working with the client, understanding their desires and their vision and watching that come to life.

Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

A. Cost, is the obvious question. The answer is you can spend as much or little as your budget and your desires allow.

Our jobs always come in on time and on budget.

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. Every job is my new favorite story! I love walking into a home, assessing the needs and watching it all come together. My clients' satisfaction is the most rewarding feeling.

Q. What do you wish customers knew about you or your profession?

A. I give everything to every job. My goal is to make sure that my customer is more than happy when I walk out their front door for the last time.

Q. How did you decide to get in your line of work?

A. I have spent many years decorating and redecorating my own home and assisting friends. Finally, I listened to my husband (and friends) who said that this is what I should be doing. So, I went back to school and here I am!

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. We worked on a home which had, unfortunately, been recently foreclosed. The home had not been cared for, looked dated and in need of a lot of attention. When we were done, the home looked brand new and beautiful. It sold within 7 days for $20,000 over the list price!

Q. Do you do any sort of continuing education to stay up on the latest developments in your field?

A. Absolutely! I belong to several associations which offer monthly training sessions as well as weekly emails with updated information regarding our industry.

Q. What are the latest developments in your field? Are there any exciting things coming in the next few years or decade that will change your line of business?

A. I think the biggest thing is expanded education and certification. Any one can take an online course and get a piece of paper. Without proper credentials, do you really know the person you are hiring is truly qualified?

Q. Describe your most recent project, what it involved, how much it cost, and how long it took.

A. A lovely couple became a blended family. His style was streamlined contemporary while hers was vert traditional. We were able to combine both styles (furniture and artwork and accessories) in such a way that the home felt warm and inviting. The husband, as well as the wife, loved the end result. They now call it their "new" home.

Q. If you have a complicated pricing system for your service, please give all the details here.

A. There is nothing complicated about my pricing for Staging and Design. A consulation is $125. But, if you utilize my services, this fee is waived. A half-day is $250, a full-day is $500 and any additional hours are $50 to $65 per hour, depending on the service you desire.

Q. If you were advising someone who wanted to get into your profession, what would you suggest?

A. Go back to school. Make sure you understand the principles of Staging and Design. Learn to listen to what the customer wants. Help them achieve their goal. Remember, it's their home, not yours. They are hiring you to make their home look it's best. Be courteous and kind as well as understanding. If someone is selling, it may be very, very difficult for them to let go of their home and pack away those "treasurers" from their lives.

Q. Write your own question and answer it.

A. Why use a Stager or Designer?

Homes which are Staged have a proven track record of selling more quickly and at a higher price.

You need someone to look at your home with an unbiased eye and help you show off it's assets so that you can achieve your goal of a quick sale.
