I took my grandsons to the Davis Library in Bethesda to see Eric Henning perform his majic and they absolutely loved the show!
Eric had the adults and the children enthralled with his amazing tricks. He had everyone laughing and enjoying themselves and wondering--"How did he do that?!" There was balloon art, face painting, caricature drawing and music at Davis Library Day, but all the kids could talk about was how much they liked that cool majic man!

Eric performed on the first night of Camp FACE (Finding Acceptance in a Camping Environment), as the opening activity for our three-day camp for children ages 10-18 with craniofacial birth defects. Eric's warm personality, excellent showmanship, and ability to engage with our teenage campers was the perfect start to our weekend! His show was fun, engaging, funny, and inspirational in all of the right places. Several of our campers and counselors continued to talk about Eric's magic tricks over the course of the weekend and many campers said the magic show was their favorite part of camp! We will most certainly be inviting Eric back to be part of Camp FACE next year, because he truly IS amazing!

That WAS amazing! I was nervous when my son wanted to invite his entire Kindergarten class to our house for his party, but Eric Henning had them laughing and focused the entire show. He had plenty of jokes for the kids (and adults) and they all loved his amazing tricks. A very memorable party!

Question and answer

Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.

A. Most of my shows are for family audiences; that is, groups where there are adults and children present, or who represent family-oriented organizations. I am equally at home at a Rotary banquet or a Cub Scout banquet; a corporate holiday party for 100 people or a holiday party for 600 children at a military facility. I can do an age-appropriate, fun and amazing birthday show for whether the "child" is turning 5 or 50!
Do you want to know the secret?
Come a little closer.
Do you promise not to tell?
Alright then.

It's not about me - it's about YOU. You and your friends having amazing fun, laughing and sharing a magical experience. That's my goal every time.

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Start early! There are simply not enough quality entertainers to cover all the events in our area. The best ones book up very early.

For a birthday party (adult or child) you want to book the entertainer at least 45-60 days in advance. For holiday parties and Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, you want to book 4-6 months ahead. For example for a company holiday party in December, start booking in August.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. It's not about the hour of magic you see. It's about the previous 30 years of hard work that makes the impossible possible, the difficult look easy and the easy look beautiful.

Q. Why does your work stand out from others who do what you do?

A. For Close-up Magic, Eric can set up a Magic Lounge where people gather, or he can mingle with your guests. It's amazing what Eric can do right under your nose!

For After-Dinner Entertainment, Eric's show is filled not only with jaw-dropping magic, but also with humor. Think "Johnny Carson" not "comedy club." Eric treats all audience members with the utmost courtesy and respect, and they leave the stage empowered and delighted.

Q. What do you like most about your job?

A. I love watching kids feel grown-up and adults feel like kids again!

Q. Do you have a favorite story from your work?

A. I was performing my Wizard Show and knew that the young lady's Dad had just been called up to serve in Iraq. He was training for a few weeks in Baltimore with his Air Guard unit, and the Mom told me they would try to do a flyover during the party.
Near the end of the show, I presented the birthday girl with a handmade hardwood wand, and asked her to close her eyes and make a wish.
At that precise moment, we heard the choppers overhead! Her eyes flew open, she screamed and ran outside to see her Dad's squadron! She'll never forget that moment, and neither will I.

Q. Tell us about a recent job you did that you are particularly proud of.

A. I recently had the extraordinary privilege of performing for President and Mrs. Obama and the First Family at the White House Halloween party. I was contacted by the event producer just days in advance, and had less than 72 hours to think up, pitch, write, choreograph, rehearse and videotape an original piece of magic!

I was asked to animate and levitate an object in full light and perform mere inches from the audience in the Green Room, which is quite cozy.

The reactions were all I could hope for, and the President and Mrs. Obama were very gracious. It's hard to imagine anything in my magical career that will top this!
