Introduction: I am thorough and careful in my inspections. I treat the clients property as if it is my own. I will share my results in a consise and easy to read report. I encourage my clients to occupany during my inspections and to ask any questions they may have. Most importantly, I am a source of information to my clients. I pride myself on being able to answer most questions and to seek answers and solutions I like the interaction with different people. I like inspecting different properties and discovering the "What were they thinking!" or "What is that!" issue. I like the independence associated with owning my own business. I especially enjoy, finding solutions to issues my clients raise or within the components of the property.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Yes. In order to maintain our licensing in Maryland, home inspectors must attend a minimum of sixteen continuing education hours. Just like realtors, teachers and other proffessionals we have to stay current. We accomplish this by attending webinars, classes, and conventions. The industry is always changing and developing new and better ways to construct, so it becomes necessary to continue to adapt and learn. Mold, lead and other EPA concerns are becoming the hot topic right now, and inspectors need to stay informed.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have been in the building industry for over 20 years, so becoming a home inspector was a natural progression for me. I attended a pre-license class at a local community college and I was on my way. Home inspection is unlike building, because my job is to find problems and identify issues which the average person will not notice. I believe my background in the industry allows me to recognize improper or substandard work. It has been a wonderful and rewarding move, to be alble to help my clients understand the house they will be purchasing, and to alert them to possible costly issues/problems.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Check and make sure your inspector is licensed and insured in the state he is working in. Are they a member of a national or state affiliated professional group. ex: NAHI or ASHI What kind of report will they provide and does it meet the standards of ASHI. If they are not a member of either NAHI or ASHI, ask them how they can provide a report to the required standard.
