FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I typically charge $75/hour for consulting, $0.12/word for web content creation, $150/job for a resume and a single targeted cover letter, $25/letter for additional targeted cover letters, and $100/business letter I write. However, my rates are flexible and often tailored to the project at hand. My prices aren't set in stone. For instance, I sometimes lower my hourly consulting rates when a business is interested in a website evaluation as well as having a number of articles or blog posts created for their website. In situations like that, I offer more of a package deal based on the project. You can contact me to discuss your needs at no charge. Once I understand the goals of your project, I can provide a custom quote tailored to your needs that will fit within your set budget.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm constantly reading up about search engine changes, particularly Google's, so that I can advise my clients on upcoming changes and maintain their organic search ranking. I also participate in webinars and occasional online courses to stay abreast of current marketing trends.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've followed a long, meandering path to find my true calling as a professional writer and marketing consultant. I had an amazing English teacher in high school who nurtured my writing talents and a boss who encouraged me to consider business instead of becoming a teacher as I'd initially intended when I started college. I told my boss at the time that I would try one marketing class, but that if I didn't like it, he had to stop trying to arm-twist me into getting a business degree. I fell in love with marketing the first day of that class, and the rest is history. I graduated top of my class, Summa Cum Laude, from Salisbury University's Perdue School of Business in 2003 and left with a BS in Business Administration with a Marketing Concentration. From there, I went to work for a bank's marketing department for three years, which gave me the opportunity to write website content, prepare a diverse range of marketing materials, plan events, and more. I then moved onto working for the online children's party supplier Birthday in a Box, where I discovered my passion for search engine optimization; I fell in love with it because SEO allows me to combine my analytical skills with my passion for writing. I had the opportunity to work in IT at Birthday in a Box, too, and tried my hand at systems requirements writing, project management, content management, QA testing, and other areas before I moved onto working for an e-commerce company that sells tattoo and piercing supplies and body jewelry. I was Marketing Manager there for two years before I found the courage to strike out on my own and start writing for a living full time. I absolutely love where I am in my career now. I have a flexible schedule and get to work with so many unique clients in diverse areas of business. My rich history allows me to advise my clients on many topics that help them grow their businesses, not just website optimization. I also enjoy helping people advance their careers by developing strong resumes and cover letters for them. The diversity in the work I do makes me all the more passionate about my own career, and I enjoy writing so much that I can't imagine doing anything other than consulting and freelance writing work now.
