I am offering sheep and angora goat shearing to the small flock and pet owners.

Spinners flocks can expect a high-quality product with few if any second cuts, and pet owners can expect their animals to be handled with care and compassion.

All animals can expect to be shorn without harm.

I charge $75 to show up and $5 per animal shorn.

Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. Look for someone who returns messages within a week and is receptive to your personal shearing needs. Having a good relationship with your shearer is important. Make sure they take the fleece off with care and handle the animals appropriately. Having a shearer who is knowledgable about all aspects of sheep care is also a plus. Feel free to ask questions and listen to what they say. We see it all, and know about what works or what doesn't.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. Shearing is hard work with long days. Please keep in mind that we have to schedule several appointments a day to fit everyone in just like at a doctors office. If your not ready to go at the appointed time then I will be late for everyone else. Have your sheep in the barn and in the pen we will be shearing from. Make sure they are dry and have been off feed for 12 hours. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!! If you fail to do this then you will should not be surprised if your shearer does not return calls the next year.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. Asking about when they will be availible is important if your sheep need shearing during a specific window. Also find out if you can have a reference you can talk to if you are uncertain about who you may be hiring. Above all else make sure to touch base a day or two before your shearing appointment and make sure everything is still ready to go.
