Question and answer
Q. Describe the most common types of jobs you do for your clients.
A. I do a variety of different work. I would say most of my jobs are paint-related. I do a bunch of other things, ranging from masonry, cultured stone, light plumbing and carpentry to sheetrock and emergency repair services/caretaking of properties.
Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Find the right person for the job...someone working on your home should be knowledgeable, friendly, interested and within a range of prices - not expensive nor too cheap. Doing things right takes a little time and money.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. Always wet your brush in the same solvent you would thin your product with before painting! Then kick it out to almost dry, and begin application.
Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?
A. Are there any licenses or certifications required to do this job (Certification and registration for working with lead paint is required by FEDERAL LAW)? Have you done this kind of project before? Do you intend to come most every day until it is done?
Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
A. A potential customer should find out beforehand what is involved in a paint job, or maintenance project. Sometimes, things cost more than one would assume 'on the fly'. There is much more to painting than just slapping it on with a brush!!!! A reputable painter will be licensed by the EPA, carry liability insurance, and have a 'support system' of relationships with others in the industry, from paint salesmen to other painters. You can't unpaint a house...you need to get it right the first time, and EXPERIENCE counts!
Q. What do you like most about your job?
A. I enjoy meeting new people and transforming something that was bothering them into something they can feel good about. I like to make my own hours and to be responsible for how a project is conducted.
Q. What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A. I am often asked to help a customer decide on which colors they should choose. I try to be a guide in some small way, but feel the customer really should be the one holding all of the cards, since they have to live with their choice after I'm gone! :o)
